Fab Academy 2020 - "How to make almost anything"

What is my Final project

My project is a living masterpiece: I said about it that it is alive because it is able to take care of itself and it can give a reaction through the lights it makes every time it waters itself. as it contains a natural plant for people who love plants and do not have enough time to take care of them, so from here the idea of my project started, where you can add this plant and enjoy its view, Without the need to take care of it. The basic idea is that the plant will be able to water itself through a sensor that reads the humidity of the soil (Soil drought) and supplies the plant with water until the humidity reaches a certain degree Thus, during this process, you will enjoy the rainbow colors Every time you water the plant itself, and all you have to do is fill in your plant's tank approximately once every 3 Weeks.

Steps to complete the project

The first step

At the beginning, I did not know what to do as a graduation project, but after thinking about the capabilities available in my hands, I knew that I could manufacture anything that crossed my mind, so start with research and thinking what to do

I am one of the people who love plants but do not have time to take care of it, so I start to think what if I made something that solves this problem, so I started to put the plan and write what I need and what I want from the thing that I will do after thinking I decided that I want to make a living masterpiece (smart plant) with a wonderful appearance She takes care of herself and all I have to do is watch her while she takes care of herself in my home or even my office

Here I began to specify what I need to complete this matter what are the project's inputs, what are its outputs, and what materials and skills I will use in my project after completion I started designing and conceptualizing the final shape and doing more than one design

The second step

After preparing the design, the structure of the final project that I decided to cut out using CNC, I prepared the design as shown in the picture below

The third step

After completing the construction of the structure, it was necessary to manufacture a cover for the structure in addition to manufacturing a water tank I chose to use black acrylic and so use laser cutting You can view the details click here

The fourth step

After creating the acrylic tank, I had to find a way to make the tank not leak water There were many options at the beginning. I decided to make a mold using an internal acrylic tank, but the result was bad because it needed a large amount of material and it didn't work, so I used another method, which is modeling on the vacuum machine. The result is as shown in the picture below

The fifth step

After completing the structure, I designed a vase And I used the 3D printer to complete the manufacturing process You can view the details by clicking here

The sixth step

Now that the structure has been completed, it is time to design the electronic board for my project

Here, I've determined how many inputs and outputs I will need, and have designed the board based on it, where I can attach a pump, humidity sensor, and LED strip.

The Seventh step

I wrote the code that will enable me to control the mechanism so that it works as follows When the plant feels thirsty, the humidity sensor will read the percentage that the soil is dry and will instruct the pump to operate at the same time the LED STRIP will turn on its green light during the irrigation process, After the soil becomes saturated with water at a certain degree, the humidity sensor gives a command to the pump to stop working and orders the LED strip to light up in rainbow colors for about 40 seconds and so on.
